Education Assistant Substitutes

Secondary Math Instructor

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is currently looking for a highly qualified secondary Math Instructor. The successful candidate will provide math instruction using the common core standards to students, grades 6-12. Instruction includes remediation of math deficiencies as well as implementation of educational practices specific to blindness. Bachelor’s degree or higher with an endorsement in mathematics is required. The successful candidate must become licensed as a teacher of the visually impaired; must possess or be eligible for NM Public Education Department licensure in math.  Will be required to become Braille proficient.  Full‑time, 9-month contract for the 2015-2016 school year.  Applications accepted until filled.

 

Administrative Assistant

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant.  This individual will provide high level administrative and clerical support to the Superintendent and the Board of Regents. Duties include administrative support and coordination to departments under the Superintendent, coordination of Board activities including minutes from public meetings and coordination with external partners of the school. The successful candidate will exercise a high degree of confidentiality while performing all duties of the office.  Must be proficient with all Microsoft Office products.  Associate’s degree or four years related experience or acceptable combination required.  Related experience in an education setting and experience preferred.  Applications accepted until filled.

 

Maintenance Technician

New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is seeking applications for Maintenance Technician.  Duties include: performing all aspects of facility maintenance and repair, moving and lifting furniture and equipment, swimming pool maintenance.  Licensing in technical repairs specific to the plumbing, mechanical and electrical fields is preferred, but not required and/or four to five years’ experience in a related field.  12 month, hourly position.  Applications will be accepted until filled.

Registered Nurse

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Early Childhood Program is currently recruiting for an RN in Albuquerque.  This position will provide health care services to visually and/or multiply impaired students in an educational pre-school setting.  New Mexico Board of Nursing Licensure is required, and eligibility for NM Public Education Department licensure; minimum of two years’ experience, preferably in pediatrics.  9‑month contract.  Applications accepted until filled.

 

Orientation and Mobility Specialist

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Early Childhood Program is seeking an Orientation and Mobility Specialist.  The O&M Specialist will provide services to enable students aged 3-5 to travel safely and efficiently within their school and community.  The O&M specialist will also help to encourage students with multiple disabilities to move within their environment within their means.  Position requires a BA degree or higher with certification as O&M.  Applications accepted until filled.

Statewide Opportunities

 

OUTREACH SERVICES:

 

Outreach Itinerant/Mentorship Support Services

New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Outreach Services Division is currently recruiting for an experienced teacher of the visually impaired or orientation and mobility. This creative, independent individual will provide mentoring opportunities to graduates from the personnel preparation program as well as teachers newly hired to the state. Will act as a liaison between NMSBVI and school districts and as a resource to school districts that are establishing vision departments.  Duties will also include student assessment, support to districts in developing and participating in IEP meetings, case load evaluations, and training. Ability to travel within the state is an essential requirement for this position.  Licensure as a TVI or O&M is required.  Mentorship Support Services also provides training, resources, consultation and support to TVIs and O&Ms in school districts throughout the state of New Mexico. 

This is a 183 day contract and covers the full school year. Must be eligible for certification in New Mexico and must meet NMSBVI’s Braille proficiency requirement. Travel is required. A home office will be set up and a car will be provided. Position available for the 2014-2015 school year.  Applications accepted until filled. 

 

 

Teacher of the Visually Impaired - Technology Consultation

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Outreach Services Division is currently recruiting for a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairment who will travel to students’ school districts to provide consultative services related to assistive technology to be used by students with visual impairments, and/or multiple disabilities.  The TVI consults with TVI/COMs, classroom teachers, the assistive technology department in the school district, and the student in applying computers and related assistive technologies to support the teaching and learning to students with visual impairments. They will use computer systems to run software, access, generate, and manipulate data.  NMSBVI is willing to support training to upgrade technology skills.  The position is 190 contracted days.  Must be eligible for certification in New Mexico and must meet NMSBVI’s Braille proficiency requirement.  Position available for the 2015-2016 school year.  Applications accepted until filled.
