Money Management
Money Management Sub-Module 1
(Recommend 1 week, 12
class periods)
The student will learn to:
•
Identify coins and money according to visual ability (folding system if
blind)
•
Appropriately store money in a wallet
• Pay for
items using correct change or estimated to nearest bill
•
Estimate how much items will cost and estimate how much total cost for a
purchase
•
Comparison shop
• Make
variety of basic purchases
•
Determine if correct change has been received
• Use an
abacus, calculator and other accommodations as needed
Money Management Sub-Module 2
(Recommend 1 week, 12
class periods)
The student will learn to:
• Estimate
and make purchases within a budget in a variety of settings (ex: grocery
store, restaurant)
• Manage
a monthly household budget
• Access
information found on household bills
• Learn
how to pay bills
• Enter
deposits and expenditures in check register or Excel file and maintain
accurate account balance
•
Differentiate between checking and savings accounts and access financial
statements
• Use an
ATM
Clothing Management
Clothing Management Sub-Module 1 (Recommend 1 week, 12
class periods)
The student will learn to:
•
Maintain central place where dirty laundry is stored
• Sort
and wash laundry
•
Accurately measuring detergent
• Set
dials on washer (adaptations to dials as needed for visual need)
•
Fold/hang up and store clothing in appropriate locations
• Make
basic repairs to clothing like sewing on a button or sewing back a hem
• Explore
clothing identification systems
• Steam
or iron clothing
•
Identify their correct clothing size
• Select
clothing that matches and is appropriate to occasion and weather
Food and Nutrition
Food Management Sub-Module 1
(Recommend
1 week (12 class periods)
The student will learn to:
• Make
accurate basic measurements
• Pour
liquids and solids like sugar and flour
• Spread
(butter)
• Cut
various food items
• Opening
packages
• Prepare
simple snacks
• Use
simple appliances (ex: toaster, microwave, can opener)
•
Clean-up and wash dishes
• Locate
items in kitchen pantry, cabinets and drawers
• Use
identifiers on cans and other food items
Food Management Sub-Module 2
(Recommend 2 weeks, 24
class periods)
The student will learn to:
• Plan
and make shopping list
•
Purchase and store items for a meal
• Prepare
meal using recipes
• Explore
adaptations for measuring, chopping and using appliances
• Cook
using stove or electric appliances (microwave, hot plate, etc.) based on
district TVI referral
• Stay
focused on kitchen safety and cleanliness
•
Practice setting a table
• Serve a
meal
• Use
proper eating etiquette
• Clean
up the table as well as the kitchen and wash dishes
Food/Nutrition Sub-Module 3
(Recommend 1 week, 12
class periods)
The student will learn to:
• Access
nutritional information on food packaging
• Health
facts about fats, vitamins/minerals and sugars
•
Identify/plan healthy balanced meals
•
Identify healthy drinks, snacks and meals
• Monitor
own food choices for a week and analyze the nutritional value of the
food intake
Household Management
House Cleaning Sub-Module 1
(Recommend 1 week, 12
class periods)
The student will learn to:
• Vacuum
• Dust
• Clean
bathrooms
• Wash
windows
• Load
dishes in dishwasher
• Hand
wash dishes
• Wipe
down surfaces
• Make a
bed
•
Tidy/organize a room.
Career Exploration
Career Exploration Sub-Module 1 (Recommend 1 week, 12
class periods)
The student will learn to:
•
Identify skills, education and accommodations needed for three different
jobs
•
Determine average salary for a variety of jobs
• Fill
out job applications both by hand and electronically
• How to
access want ads in newspapers and online
• Develop
a resume
•
Complete at least one mock interview
To benefit from this module, the student must be able to do research on
the internet.
Child Care
Baby Think it Over Sub-Module 1 (Recommend 1 week, 12 class periods
along with constant baby care)
The student will be assigned an automated baby and learn to:
• Feed,
change or comfort the baby when it cries. needs are met
• Be
responsible for baby care 24 hours a day for 4 days
•
Estimate financial and health care needs of a baby
• Adapt
child care strategies
• Examine
own medical conditions and medications and how that may impact a baby
(as appropriate).
Workshop
Workshop Sub-module 1 (Recommend 1 week, 12 class
periods)
The student will learn to:
•
Identify and use basic handheld and power tools
• Make
simple household repairs
• Read a
tape measure/click ruler
• Use
screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, drills, and handheld saw.
