Short-Term Programs ~ Overarching Skills
 

Test Taking Strategies Module

Sub-Module 1 (Recommend 1 week, 6 class periods)
The student will learn to:
Read test directions with understanding
Examine length of test to determine time available to spend on each part
Manage time to ensure high value questions receive more attention
Bypass challenging questions and return to them as time allows
Review test answers after completing the test
Quickly narrow down possible answers on multiple choice tests
Accurately mark answers on the test itself or a recording sheet
Develop strategies to reduce test anxiety
Use test grading criteria to his/her advantage
Make use of acronyms
 

Note Taking Module

Sub-Module 1 (Recommend 1 week, 6 class periods)
The student will learn to:
Prepare to take notes by having needed tools available and completing assigned readings
Take notes from a lecture by writing/typing
Take notes from a lecture by active taping
Listen for statements that signal something is note-worthy
Make use of abbreviations while writing/typing notes
Review and revise notes after class to ensure thorough understanding of material
