Test Taking Strategies Module

Sub-Module 1 (Recommend 1 week, 6 class periods)
The student will learn to:
• Read test directions with understanding
• Examine length of test to determine time available to spend on each part
• Manage time to ensure high value questions receive more attention
• Bypass challenging questions and return to them as time allows
• Review test answers after completing the test
• Quickly narrow down possible answers on multiple choice tests
• Accurately mark answers on the test itself or a recording sheet
• Develop strategies to reduce test anxiety
• Use test grading criteria to his/her advantage
• Make use of acronyms
 

Note Taking Module

Sub-Module 1 (Recommend 1 week, 6 class periods)
The student will learn to:
• Prepare to take notes by having needed tools available and completing assigned readings
• Take notes from a lecture by writing/typing
• Take notes from a lecture by active taping
• Listen for statements that signal something is note-worthy
• Make use of abbreviations while writing/typing notes
• Review and revise notes after class to ensure thorough understanding of material
