Braille Note Taker Modules
Braille Note Taker
Sub- Module 1
(Recommend 1 week
with 12 periods instruction)
The student will learn to:
• Use
a district provided Braille note taker or an NMSBVI provided PACMate
•
Create documents
•
Open documents
•
Transfer documents to saving devices like a thumb drive
•
Utilize spell check
•
Create folders using the computer
•
Organize documents within the computer
To benefit from this module the
student needs to know the basic computer functions such as backspace,
function key uses, USB ports, etc.
Braille Note Taker
Sub- Module 2
(Recommend 1 week with 12 periods instruction)
The student will learn to:
• Use
a district provided Braille note taker or an NMSBVI provided PACMate
• Use
the calendar
•
Calculator use
•
Sync with computer
•
Access the internet
To benefit from this module the
student needs to know the basic computer functions such as backspace,
function key uses, USB ports, etc. as well as know the basic functions
of a Braille note taker covered in sub-module 1.
Computer
Technology Module
VI Technology- Sub
Module 1 (Recommend 1 week with 12 periods instruction)
The Student will learn to:
• Use
shortcut keyboard commands for common computer uses/programs
• Use
accessibility options standard on personal computers to access commonly
used programs
• Use
a screen enlargement program with keyboard commands
• Use
a screen reader program with keyboard commands
• Use
a scanner and "clean up" scanned text
•
Access the internet
To benefit from this module the
student needs to know the keyboard
layout (know where all/ or most of the keys on the keyboard) and basic
computer functions.
VI Technology- Sub
Module 2 (Recommend 1 week with 12 periods instruction)
The student will learn to:
•
Access digital books visually or auditorially
•
Download digital books to computer, Braille note taker, or other devices
• Use
CCTV to read and/ or access pictures, maps, graphs, and charts
• Use
a hand held CCTV to read and/ or access pictures, maps, graphs, charts
To benefit from this module the
student needs to know how to access the internet, make use of computers
(either with or without accessibility software) and saving devices like
thumb drives.
