Sprite Backup is a complete backup and restore utility for the Pocket PC. Regular
data backups are strongly advised when working on any computer platform.
The copy of Sprite Backup that comes on the PAC Mate Documentation CD allows you 10 days
to evaluate the program after which you must decide whether you want to authorize
it for further use. There is a card containing an authorization code in the
PAC Mate shipping carton. This card is in both print and braille.
The online help that comes with Sprite Backup is very comprehensive and easily
explains all features of this program. To open Sprite Backup Help, open the
program, press the Windows Key and select Help from the Start Menu.
Installing and Configuring Sprite Backup
Ensure that ActiveSync is installed on your desktop computer, and that the
PAC Mate is connected to your computer with either a standard or guest
  partnership.
- Insert the Documentation CD into your computer’s CD ROM drive.
- On the computer, open the Start Menu and select Run.
- In the Open edit field, type the following path:
D:\3rd_Party_Programs\SpriteBackup\SpriteBackupEnglishPremiumSetup_june.exe, where D: is your CD ROM drive.
- Follow the install wizard.
Normally, this version of Sprite Backup installs three components:
- Sprite Backup.
- Pocket Monitor.
- Space Detective.
If you want to conserve application space on your PAC Mate, you might choose to install
only Sprite Backup. To do so and bypass installation of the other two programs, do the
  following:
- Choose the No button when prompted with, Install "Sprite Software Sprite Backup"
and other pending installations using the default application install directory?
- Select the Cancel button when prompted to choose destination media.
- Choose whether to include the Backup Service in startup. This allows you to have the
Sprite Backup agent start automatically when your computer starts.
- In the ActiveSync dialog, press ALT+T, followed by the letter M, to
  open the Add/Remove Programs dialog.
- Navigate to the item labeled Sprite Software Sprite Backup and press
the SPACEBAR to select this program.
- Press the TAB key to move to the OK button and press ENTER to install Sprite
  Backup to your PAC Mate.
An entry for Sprite Backup is added to the Programs submenu. To access the
Sprite Backup help files, open the Start Menu, choose Help, navigate to
  Sprite Backup, and press ENTER.
After installation completes, the first time you open the program, you should do
the following for best results when backing up or restoring files:
- Press ALT to open the menus and select Options.
- Select Switch to Advance Mode and press ENTER.
- Press ALT to open the menus and select Options.
- Select Backup Options.
- Choose General Backup Options.
- In the General Backup Options dialog, ensure the following:

    - Stop Processes Before Backup should be unchecked.
- Create self-restoring Backup Files should be checked.

- Press TAB to move to the OK button and press ENTER.
- Press ALT to open the menus and select Options. Select Restore Options.
- In the Restore Options dialog, ensure the following:

    - Stop Processes Before Restore should be unchecked.

- Press TAB to move to the OK button and press ENTER.
In the main Sprite Backup window, you can press ENTER when the ... button
is selected. This allows you to determine where the backup file will be saved.
You should choose either Storage Card (if you have a CompactFlash card inserted into
the PAC Mate and want to save the file there) or Flash Disk. The Flash Disk is
an area of storage approximately 10 megabytes in size on the PAC Mate. Files
stored there are protected if you have to perform a cold reset of your PAC Mate; that
is, any files stored there will not be lost. You might want to save your first backup
to a CompactFlash card in order to determine its size before you decide to choose
Flash Disk as your permanent storage location. Selecting Compress Backup in General
Backup Options can help minimize the size of the backup file.
