Registered Nurse, Substitutes

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is currently recruiting for RN Substitutes. These individuals will plan and implement health care services to visually and/or multiply impaired students. The ability to demonstrate current knowledge in professional issues in school nursing, school and community health, communicable disease control, health assessment, acute and chronic health conditions, injury prevention and emergency care, student issues, and legal/ethical health policies is necessary. New Mexico Board of Nursing Licensure is required and must be eligible for certification from the New Mexico Public Education Department. Experienced RNs and newly licensed BSN graduates are welcome to apply. Applications accepted until filled.

Speech Therapist

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is currently looking for a Speech Therapist. The speech language therapist is responsible for all diagnostic and intervention services including speech language impairments, voice disorders, feeding, communication modalities for students with visual impairments. Additional experience with alternative communication devices and tangible symbol communication preferred. MA degree in Speech Therapy, eligible for New Mexico PED licensure is required. Background/experience in teaching students with visual/multiple impairments preferred. Full-time position for the 2017-2018 school year. Applications accepted until filled.

Driver/Caregiver, Substitute

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is recruiting for a substitute Driver/Caregiver. Background/experience in transporting or working with children with visual impairments and/or multiple disabilities is preferred. Required to assist with self-help routines with students. Driving will include routes to Gallup and Farmington on weekends. Good driving record required. This is a 9 month substitute position with extended runs on Fridays and Sundays and occasional Mondays. RN, Substitute

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Early Childhood Program is currently recruiting for a regularly scheduled RN Sub to travel with student(s). This position will provide health care services to visually and/or multiply impaired students in flight to and from their home communities. New Mexico Board of Nursing Licensure is required, and eligibility for NM Public Education Department licensure; minimum of two years experience, preferably in pediatrics. Statewide Opportunities

Outreach Services:

Outreach Itinerant/Mentorship Support Services

New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Outreach Services Division is currently recruiting for an experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired. This creative, independent individual will provide mentoring opportunities to interns in the personnel preparation program as well as teachers newly hired to the state. Will act as a liaison between NMSBVI and school districts and as a resource to school districts that are establishing vision departments. Duties will also include student assessment, support to districts in developing and participating in IEP meetings, case load evaluations, and training. Ability to travel within the state is an essential requirement for this position. Licensure as a TVI is required. Mentorship Support Services also provides training, resources, consultation and support to TVIs in school districts throughout the state of New Mexico. This is a 183 day contract and covers the full school year. Must be eligible for certification in New Mexico and must meet NMSBVI’s Braille proficiency requirement. Travel is required. A home office will be set up and a car will be provided. Position available for the 2017-2018 school year. Applications accepted until filled.

Driver/Reader, Part-time

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Outreach Department is advertising for a Driver/Reader position. The Driver/Reader will provide transportation in an NMSBVI vehicle for an Itinerant Teacher with a visual impairment. The driver will assist the Itinerant Teacher with, packing, loading and unloading of supplies, equipment and other items as needed. The position requires travel and overnight stays within the state of New Mexico. Gas, meals and lodging are paid for by NMSBVI. The Driver/Reader will also read necessary material to the Itinerant Teacher as requested. This position is part-time and extends over the 9-month school year; the position requires a good driving record. Applications will be accepted until filled.
